The Alexander Technique, Islington, London N1

My practice is a short walk from
Highbury and Islington tube
and is a few minutes from Canonbury station
on the London Overground line.

I am a fully qualified and insured member of the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT) and have been teaching in North London for 17 years.

We live in an age of hidden strain, in a fast-moving digital world which makes it difficult to release tension built up by work demands and the often intense way we live our lives. High expectations of being able to perform well and adapt quickly mean that stress is built up in our muscles as well as our minds. We develop ways, or habits, of using our bodies which can cause stress and knots of tension, resulting in stiffness and pain. The Alexander Technique teaches us to release or unlock these and to move with greater efficiency and ease.

'A friend suggested I see Carol after I'd had episodes of being admitted to A&E with excruciating lower back pain. One of the many things I learned through working with her was not to be afraid of my own body. Nine years later, I'm still well. She's had a profound effect on the quality of my life.'
Sheila Marks, teacher.
